El Paso Giving Day is more important than ever for nonprofits

When tragedy came to El Paso on Aug. 3, El Pasoans came together.

That’s what we do. And that’s what we kept on doing. From car shows to telethons, El Pasoans just wanted to know how we could help those among us who had been directly impacted by an act of violence none of us could have imagined.

While our community has been almost singularly focused on recovery, hundreds of non-profit organizations have continued their work in the background. Some of that work is directly or indirectly related to recovery; some of it isn’t. But all of it is part of an important Community of Philanthropy that provides an indispensable network of services to those in our region — this year and every year.

Indeed, the need among nonprofits in our community has never been greater than it is right now.

That’s why the Paso del Norte Community Foundation is so committed to El Paso Giving Day — an online communitywide day of giving held each year. While raising hundreds of thousands of dollars in a single day is inspiring, we need to do more for our nonprofits. El Paso Giving Day challenges and empowers our local nonprofits by helping them build their fundraising capacity and diversify their donor bases.

This is absolutely critical to ensuring the long-term success of individual nonprofits. But, more importantly, it builds a stronger, more resilient Community of Philanthropy. In preparing for each day of giving, the Paso del Norte Community Foundation provides free training to nonprofits to build capacity and engage new and younger donors through social media outlets.

Many of our community and region’s most philanthropically minded organizations are going all-in and supporting El Paso Giving Day. It is generously supported by sponsors including The Meadows Foundation, El Paso Electric, Las Palmas Del Sol Healthcare, United Healthcare, Hoy Family Auto, WestStar Bank, Microsoft, Pack & Ship Express, Lauterbach Borschow, Kemp Smith Law and Texas Gas Service. Local businesses are also stepping up to offer incentive prizes and matching funds to make individual donations go even further.

Over the last two and a half months, we’ve seen our city unite and donate eagerly to the El Paso Victims Relief Fund. But there is still much that can be done to assist the nonprofits that play an important role in improving the health, quality of life, education, social services and economic development in our region. El Paso nonprofits never stop giving back and it’s our time to give them the support they need.

So, on Nov. 14, save the date to give back to nonprofits in our region! Your contribution on El Paso Giving Day will help local nonprofits now and perhaps more importantly, into the future.
